Smile

Yesterday I did some christmas shopping at the mall. I was overwhelmed by the way consumerism and image is shoved in your face in the form of advertisements, posters, what is hanging on the racks in stores and what people are wearing. Then I went to the local grocery store, where a banjo player was pickin' outside with a "99 percent" button on. I looked at him, an older gentleman with a beard like Santa Claus, enjoying life, wearing a flannel shirt and suspenders and a funny hat. . . it was reassuring to remember that my little slice of the 99 percent are people who put more energy into their life's passion, having a good heart, and "sharing the love", so to speak, than pursuing the materialistic values of consumerism that are constantly shoved down our throats in America. I'm a small town girl and I grew up in a place where it was common place to smile at everyone you passed on the street and greet friends with a big bear hug.
