A little Mother's Day demo for you about emerging from our mother's wombs into two rooms.

The above, the beneath. The clarity, the mystery. Love, struggle. Rain and riptides.

I dove deep to write this one. I wondered where it came from. It was a rainy night at a friend's house in Occidental in front of the fireplace. The song poured out. It kept pouring.

I let it pour, sank into the rhythm and cadence of the lyrics, the repetitive bluesy nature of the lyrics.

I let the process of writing transform my heart as it always does.

I wondered- where is this guitar rhythm coming from? Then I realized I had written another song with the same rhythm many years ago, and that somehow the beat had been recycled back up from my subconscious.

The mystery of song and creativity never fails to amaze.

Albums

Walker Road- Alison Harris and The Barn Owls

Walker Road is an Americana album by Alison Harris and The Barn Owls recorded live and analog at the historic Walker Road Schoolhouse building in Two Rock, CA. The goal of this recording was to capture the organic warmth and spontaneity of the band playing music in a beautiful old room together. The Walker Road Schoolhouse building, located in Sonoma County (Northern California) features high ceilings, a fire in the hearth, and views of green fields and mustard flowers through old glass windows. The majority of the music, including all lead vocals, band instrumentals, and band solos, was captured live on tape with the band playing in a circle.

Smoke Rings in the Sky

Alison's debut record “Smoke Rings in the Sky” was recorded in the Spring of 2008 at Different Fur Studios (Herbie Hancock, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, David Byrne) in San Francisco.  The album was released on Harris family record label Omega Records, and produced by Chris Chu and Patrick Brown (Tegan and Sara, Gomez, Black Lips, Violent Femmes, Kate Walsh, Rodrigo y Gabriella).  Distribution and marketing by RedeyeUSA (Polyphonic Spree, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Mars Volta, Public Enemy, Jamie Lidell).
