Collections (Little Jewels Writing Prompt)

Write about something you seem to keep collecting (ie. Sea Glass, Antique Lamps, Records, Clothes of a certain color, People of a certain type, etc.) and why you may be drawn to these things.

Musical Response

Why are you drawn to music?  Do you have a first musical memory, and if so, what is it?  What affect does music have on you?  Do you listen to music for a wide range of emotional inspiration and reflection, or for certain emotions, or both?  When you listen to music, do you focus on the music or prefer to be engaged in other things when you listen, or both?  Why?  What does music mean to you?

WRITE
Little Jewels

  • Write about your first few experiences with live music.
  • Collect ideas through the day:  Turn on your creative awareness today.  When an image, phrase, idea, something from nature, something industrial, emotion, experience, or. . . ? Catches your creative awareness, take a quick moment to record it.  Jot it down in a notebook, snap a photo, make a quick voice memo, write a note on your phone.  Do this for a few days and then take record of what you collected. Does any pattern or theme pop out?  Regardless, hang on to these for later creative use and inspiration.

Write:  Dreams and Poems

  • Write about your dream last night, or a dream  you remember vividly.  What in your daily life may have inspired it?

  • Write a poetic prose piece with an emphasis on creative, whimsical, and/or vivid descriptions and imagery.  Allow the topics to jump at random from one thing to the next.  Then read back through to see how your ideas may be connected.
